چکیده
This study presents a preliminary assessment of the environmental impact field-scale underground coal gasification (UCG) targeting deep-buried seams by studying fate UCG products in reactor vicinity. A series simulation scenarios are conducted three deep (900 m) areas specific interest – namely, South Wales coalfield (UK), Upper Silesian basin (Poland) and Ruhr mining district (Germany) to investigate transport gaseous dissolved chemicals. The results indicate that syngas propagation is limited 2.0 m vicinity after 30 days, except it 4.4 shale (overburden) UK site. Transport chemicals, through diffusion, without considering adsorption less than 0.5 when considered 10 years. Moreover, effects hydrology condition, stratum properties thermally induced change rock porosity permeability on studied. suggest unacceptable risks environment unlikely arise if standard operating conditions applied, offering great prospect be for UCG. also provides insights into evaluation other potential projects.

Early Ideas in Underground Coal Gasification and Their Evolution
This article follows the development of early UCG (underground coal gasification) ideas. Historical facts are discussed mainly from the technological perspective and early experiments in UCG are analyzed. Our search for the first successful UCG experiment brings to light a new finding, which was commonly overlooked in previous reviews. We also outline the key role that engineer and inventor A. ...
متن کاملPermeability evolution during progressive deformation of intact coal and implications for instability in underground coal seams
We report measurements of deformation, strength and permeability evolution during triaxial compression of initially intact coals. Permeability is continuously measured by the constant pressure differential method, together with axial and volumetric strains for both water (H2O) and strongly adsorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. Strength and Young’s modulus increase with increasing confining stress...
متن کاملUnderground Coal Gasification: A Brief Review of Current Status
Coal gasification is a promising option for the future use of coal. Similarly to gasification in industrial reactors, underground coal gasification (UCG) produces syngas, which can be used for power generation or for the production of liquid hydrocarbon fuels and other valuable chemical products. As compared with conventional mining and surface gasification, UCG promises lower capital/operating...
متن کاملUCGVision: Underground Coal Gasification Process Data Visualization Aspects
This work presents the UCGVision system designed for underground coal gasification process visualization, prediction, and monitoring. The possibility to visualize the ongoing reactions during the process is crucial for better insight into the process itself. Moreover, the system task is to give researchers and in the future process supervisor a tool to observe the current state of the process b...
متن کاملa study of underground coal gasification (ucg) wastewater and sludge
underground coal gasification (ucg) is a non-conventional method of extracting gas from coal. the primary advantage of ucg is that it recovers gas from uneconomical or unminable coal, potentially increasing the value of the world’s coal reserves by an estimated 70%; for this reason, ucg has been implemented at sites around the world. however, the gaseous, liquid and solid waste streams which ac...
